Discourses Used in Explaining the Language Education Policy “United School”
Keywords: language policy in education; global discourses; minority education, critical discourse analysis
Public discourses reflected in policy documents and materials issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, as well as private discourses represented in minority school leaders’ interviews reveal the impact of global discourses (such as globalization, neoliberalism, standardization, and nationalism discourses) on implementation and significance of language education policy “United School”. Instead of aligning with global discourses in education policy, the study of local discourses allows for the identification of issues unique to Latvia’s language education policy.
