An Individual and External Border Securitisation Within the Scope of National Security

Summary
In this article, the author, using an interdisciplinary approach and drawing upon the insights of securitization theory, briefly examines the national identity clause enshrined in Article 4(2) of the Treaty on European Union, particularly within the framework of national security. The findings and conclusions in this work are set against the backdrop of the present-day circumstances, wherein global and regional turbulence has introduced novel challenges to both the external and internal dimensions of the national security of the Republic of Latvia. Viewed through the lens of securitization theory and the understanding of the right of an individual to security as delineated in Article 6 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, the objective of this article is to offer a concise reflection upon the current scope of national security within a specific context – the external border segment of the European Union and the Republic of Latvia.
