Ievads

Preface

The long-awaited 15th collection of scientific articles in the University of Latvia series “History of Science and Museology” commences its journey to readers. This is, to some extent, a commemorative collection for the series’ long-standing authors and colleagues. While the current volume was in preparation, the science community mourned passing away of its esteemed members – Latvian medical historian Professor Arnis Vīksna, historian of science and silicate chemist Ilgars Grosvalds, chemist Uldis Alksnis. This collection includes a long-stored manuscript on the history of the University of Latvia Museum of Zoology. One of its authors – Andris Piterāns – is no longer with us.

The collection contains 16 scientific articles, arranged alphabetically by the names of their authors. The diverse topics of the articles reflect the history of particular sciences represented at the University of Latvia, the curricula of lecturers and researchers and their contribution to the development of science and society, certain professional questions reflected in collections of memory institutions, as well as an overview of recognition that this series has achieved online to date. Most of the authors traditionally presented their research at the meetings of the section “History and Museology of Science” of the 76th (2018) and 77th (2019) International Scientific Conferences of the University of Latvia.

This release specifies the title of the series – “History of Sciences and Museology”.
