Katra muzeja interesantākā daļa, protams, ir tajā apskatāmie eksponāti. Bet ne mazāk interesanta ir izstādīto eksponātu un krājumā uzglabāto kolekciju vēsture un informācija par cilvēkiem, kas ar to bijuši saistīti. Izņēmums nav arī LU Zooloģijas muzejs, kur aplūkojamas tādas izcilas kolekcijas kā Ā. Butula gliemji, barona A. Maltica Dienvidamerikas putni, kā arī daudzveidīgas kukaiņu kolekcijas. Savukārt krājumā glabājas slavenu zinātnieku kolekcijas: barona J. Nolkena tauriņu, E. Ozola jātnieciņu, barona H. Loudona putnu ādiņu un citas kolekcijas.

Summary
The most valuable part of every museum consists of the exhibits and collections that a museum has in its possession. Each exhibit and collection usually holds a fascinating history of its origins or harbours interesting details about the author of said exhibits and collections. The collections of the University of Latvia (UL) Museum of Zoology are no exception and their history often dates back as early as to the 19th century.
This article provides a detailed insight into the history of collections in possession of the UL Museum of Zoology that includes unique exhibits like molluscs of Ādams Butuls, tropical bird collections of Baron Apollonius von Maltitz and various insect exhibits. Collections that are not open for public viewing also contain many gems – butterflies and moths collected by Baron Johann H. W. Nolcken, ichneumon wasps compiled by Edgars Ozols, bird skins contributed by Baron Harald von Loudon, and many others. In total, the UL Museum of Zoology has more than 50 different collections in its possession.
After reorganization of the Museum of the University of Latvia in 2018, the Museum of Zoology is left with only one staff member. The future of the museum and its extraordinary collections remains unclear.
